The Label
The idea behind Commodity is to build on what it's essentially been since 1999 - a central point to keep up with the various projects from Implosion Quintet. Additionally to this output, we hope to boink out the occasional dust-ruby from the realms of the loose, shonky groove, maybe a few numbers with wonky soul here and there, and perhaps even the odd slice of lofi nodsome boog. Beyond that, there is no guiding philosophy, it just felt like it was something that should happen, and eventually did.

The Music
There isn't any one type of music that commodity releases (or at least hopes to). There are already a plethora of netlabels who represent the various niches and do so competantly. So we're interested in The Feeling, man, not how spick your span is.
If you've got some fuzzy demos somewhere written with a hammond, a casio and a cheek splitting grin... If your sketchy funk jams in the loft threw up a handful of bonza... If you make stuff that rolls along like a lazy-pig, but doesnt really fit in anywhere... If your musical sketchpad's got some smudged but interesting doodles... ...Then we'll almost certainly shake to your noise, yo.

The Demo
If you're considering commodity, thanks very much. The label is a spare-time affair, and we don't have much of it, so do everyone a favour and keep it brief. Upload 1 tune somewhere and send us a link.
If you don't hear back, it wasn't our bag but keep at it (although, if you're a musician through and through, you won't be able to stop even if you want too. :) ). If we like what we hear, we'll ask for more please, sir, yes.

Either way, it would be wise to avoid hassling us... And pretty please, don't send mp3 via email as they go straight to the bin.

The Technical
All the files are hosted off-site at Archive.org, which is not only extremely kind of them, but also very handy as they have an established system for supporting netlabels. It also means you get a variety of different options for the files, so it's worth checking out the archive page if you're looking for ogg or lower quality streaming/mp3.
We also upload our releases to Last.fm, so, if you use the site (and you should as it's ace) a mirror profile of the label can be found here.
